E8. Potentiometric digital titrator
CATALOG NAME:
Metrhom 848 Titrino plus
DESCRIPTION:
The 848 Titrino plus is a titrator for volumetric titrations for universal applications. With 848 Titrino Plus, the following titration and measuring modes are supported: • DET - Dynamic equivalence point titration. The reagent is added in variable volume steps. • MET - Monotonic equivalence point titration. The reagent is added in constant volume steps. • SET - Endpoint titration at one or two specified endpoints. • CAL - Electrode calibration. For volumetric water determinations, it is used the 803 KF Titration Stand for stirring and for exchanging the used working medium. The built-in pump aspirates off the used titration solution and adds new working medium without the cell having to be opened. This shortens the conditioning time and prevents the escape of solvents and their accumulation in the lab atmosphere. The Karl Fischer titrator can be used to determine water contents from a few ppm up to 100% reliably and accurately in solid, liquid and gaseous samples.

E12. Laboratory equipments for conditioning of bulk powder materials
CATALOG NAME:
MILLS, ATTRITOR, PLANETARY MILL, ULTRASONIC PROCESSOR
DESCRIPTION:
Contraplex Mill typically deliver high grinding fineness in the range 10 – 500µm, especially with brittle and crystalline materials. The Contraplex CW wide-chamber housing prevents coating formation, builds up and thus blockages in the machine and is especially suited for moist, oily, fatty or hygroscopic products. The planetary monomill can be used for mixing and homogenization of dry samples, of emulsions and of pastes. In order to prevent excessive abrasion, the hardness of the grinding bowl used and of the grinding balls must be higher than that of the material used. The attritor versatility is gained by the ability to operate under a range of conditions: grinding media type, size and amount; different machine speeds; and variable loading or feed rate of raw material. In addition to reducing particle size, attritor also can create the highest intensity intimate blending of dissimilar materials. Specific chemicals or additives can also be introduced to the mill during the grinding process to achieve the ultimate dispersing or coating on the dry solid particles. Ultrasonic processor use ultrasonic power as an effective and energy efficient means to apply high shear and intense stress to liquids, powder/liquid mixtures and slurries. The applications include mixing, dispersing, particle size reduction, extraction and chemical reactions.

E13. Laboratory facilities for color testing and evaluation of color fastness
CATALOG NAME:
XENOTEST 150 S+
DESCRIPTION:
The performance of a dyed or printed textile when exposed to various agencies during end-use is normally assessed by appropriate color fastness testing. The major types of color fastness test relate to the color fastness to washing, and to light and weathering, to rubbing, atmospheric contaminants, and organic solvents. Color fastness to light is normally assessed using a high intensity filtered xenon arc lamp to simulate natural daylight. A set of blue wool standard fabric strips that fade at known rates must also be used in each test. The degree of fade is based upon visual assessment of the degree of color fade on the test sample compared with the equivalent degree of fade on the blue wool samples. The color fastness performance in standardized wash tests is rated by visual assessment of the change in color of the colored material and the degree of staining on to adjacent materials in the wash liquor (e.g. a multifibre fabric test strip, or specific adjacent fabrics), using ISO Grey Scales or using a spectrophotometer and the color difference converted into a Grey Scale rating. Color fastness to rubbing is assessed by rubbing a standard white fabric against the dyed sample under a constant pressure for an agreed number of strokes under wet or dry conditions. Assessment of the degree of staining on the white fabric is assessed using the ISO Grey Scale for staining.

DESCRIPTION:
The equipment is especially useful for researches on preparation, stabilization, characterization and application of disperse systems. Qualitative or semi-quantitative information about particle size and shape can be determined, by numerically counting the amount of particles within predetermined size fractions. The microscope has lenses which will enlarge the particles images, enabling to individually determine sizes of particles of minimally 1 µm diameter. For the determination of the particle size distribution completely based on light microscopy, a large numbers of pictures containing a large number of particles must be processed in order to count the particles of interest without including artifacts.

Chemat
DESCRIPTION:
The Spin Coater is a programmable centrifugal system, intended for the deposition of thin films from solutions, under conditions of high reproducibility, on smooth surfaces of different types (glass, quartz, mica, silicon, etc.) and with variable dimensions. The most important aspects for ensuring correct, so reproducible, measurements are (i) the preparation and history of the sample, and (ii) the measurement procedure, including the equipment and devices to be used. The first aspect is related to the sample, through the sample understanding both the material to be analyzed and the form in which it is placed. The second aspect concerns the experimental conditions required to be respected. The two aspects interfere with the form of the sample because it is determined both by the characteristics of the material to be investigated and by the specificity of the measuring device.
