Evaluation of the impact of environmental degradation on individuals and households
SERVICE DESCRIPTION:
This service primarily seeks to assess and ultimately contribute to the alleviation of the negative effects of environmental degradation on the general population and households in the North-East region. The main research methods involve statistical surveys regarding the state of health, ecological attitudes and behaviour of individuals. The main expected outcomes of the research are two-fold: it will generate a scientific basis for environmental protection policy proposals, and it will contribute to the consolidation of an environmentally-friendly mindset of the society.

X-ray structure determination of single crystals
SERVICE DESCRIPTION:
The characterization of single crystal samples by x-ray diffraction is one of the favored methods to obtain the chemical structure of almost any type of substance. Currently we are able to use two sources (Cu and Mo). A range of services from unit cell measurement up to full structure determination can be offered. In order to obtain a structure determination an important necessary condition is to provide us with sufficient quality single crystals.

Research Equipment
Environmental chamber (ESC-Q-UAIC)
CATALOG NAME:
n/a
DESCRIPTION:
The reactor consists of three quartz tubes connected by flanges with a total length of 4.2 m, has an inner diameter of 0.48 m and is closed at both ends by stainless steel flanges. The CERNESIM environmental chamber (ESC-Q-UAIC) has a volume of about 750 L. The reactor can be evacuated to a pressure of about 5x10-2 mbar by a turbo molecular pump system. To ensure homogeneous mixing of the reactants, two fans with Teflon blades are mounted inside the reactor. For the photolysis aging, black-light lamps (with λmax = 365 nm) mimicking solar radiation and evenly spaced around the reaction vessel, will be employed. The chamber is equipped with a White type multiple-reflection mirror system with a base length of (4.2 ± 0.1) m for sensitive in situ long path absorption monitoring of reactants and products in the IR spectral range. The White system operate at 15 traverses, giving a total optical path length of (492 ± 0.2) m. The IR spectra are recorded with a spectral resolution of 0.06 cm-1 using a Bruker-Vertex 80v FTIR spectrometer, equipped with an MCT detector. Both end flanges contain inlet systems for reactants and bath gases, particle sampling, pressure and temperature measurements.
