Thermal methods of investigation of the highly efficient multifunctional polymeric materials
SERVICE DESCRIPTION:
The thermal methods allow the investigation of the thermal behavior of different types of materials by the analysis of the mass variation (TG curve), temperature variation (DTA curve) and the precise determination of the quantity of heat ejected or absorbed in a physical-chemical process (the technique of the differential scanning calorimetry - DSC). The derived thermogravimetric curves (DTG) are used mainly in certain processes in succession with a high speed and at close temperatures or in certain processes with very different weight modifications, as an order of magnitude, within a small temperature interval.

SPI-DRY Critical Point Dryer
CATALOG NAME:
SPI-DRY Critical Point Dryer
DESCRIPTION:
The SPI Supplies SPI-DRY Critical Point Dryer (CPD) is designed to handle the dehydration of biological (as well as other materials) samples prior to examination the high vacuum environment of the scanning electron microscope (SEM). The SPI Supplies CPDs are designed to work at the critical temperature and pressure of CO2. The high pressure coupling hose supplied with the CPD has been provided with the appropriate connection to a carbon dioxide siphon cylinder. Cooling water is applied to the water jacket to lower the temperature of the chamber to below 20C. Samples that have previously been chemically dehydrated are loaded into the chamber, which is then filled with liquid CO2. A series of flush cycles remove the dehydration liquid and replace it with the liquid CO2. Once the substitution is complete, the chamber is heated by flowing hot water through the jacket. This will raise the internal pressure, taking the CO2 through its critical point. Once the critical point has been passed, the pressure is slowly released through the vent valve, and the samples removed.

Laurell WS-650-23 Spin Coater
CATALOG NAME:
Laurell WS-650-23 Spin Coater
DESCRIPTION:
The housing for this system is typically made from a solid co-polymer blend exclusive to Laurell Technologies. Unlike pure Natural Polypropylene, this material is able to resist solvents and strong acids and bases. A solid PTFE Hostaflon housing is available. Laurell's unique internal bowl design eliminates splash back, making it unnecessary to install "splash rings." Our large down-flow Exhausted Drain Adapter with removable reservoir is as functional as it is convenient. The closed bowl design, coupled with the precision of the process controller, allows most coating materials to dry in a quiescent state, increasing uniformity and minimizing particle contamination. The upper plenum closes inside the base to provide an overlapping seal, and the inside of the lid has a special gutter to channel fluid to the rear of the system to discourage chemicals from accidentally dripping onto the substrate. A proprietary labyrinth seal protects the motor and control electronics from chemical contamination. This seal provides the process chamber with Nitrogen purge and has been proven to be particle-free on a sub-micron level during field testing. The system's clear top is made from ECTFE (unless otherwise stated), and only ECTFE-coated 316 stainless steel screws are used in some non-wetted areas throughout the system.

Ultrasonic homogenizer – Bandelin sonopuls HD 2200
CATALOG NAME:
Ultrasonic homogenizer – Bandelin sonopuls HD 2200
DESCRIPTION:
Ultrasonic homogenizers produce a high-power ultrasound with high amplitudes. The oscillations are transmitted and amplified down along the length of the horn and the probe into the aqueous sample to be treated. Ultrasonic homogenizers are used in laboratories, hospitals and industrial research to solve various tasks in sample preparation, quality control, scientific experiments as well as in analysis or pilot or short production runs. Application examples: • Cell disruption for paternity test • Cell disruption (extraction of micro-organisms, tissue cells) • Homogenization of liquids • Emulsification of liquids difficult to mix • Dispersing of agglomerates • Acceleration of chemical reactions • Degassing of liquids • Sample preparation in environmental analyses (sewage analyses, soil samples) • Sonochemistry Ultrasonic homogenizers are also used for in-vitro-diagnostics operations in laboratories to obtain detailed in-sight in ultrasonic treatment of organic material. Therefore the homogenizers are classified as medical device in compliance to the directive for in-vitro-diagnostics 98/79/EG. 6 Principle of operation The HF generator converts the received power (power frequencies of 50 or 60 Hz) into high- frequency power at a frequency of 20 kHz. The ultrasonic converter connected to the HF generator transforms the high-frequency power from the HF generator to ultrasound, converting it to a form of mechanical energy. This is achieved through an efficient and robust PZT ultrasonic transducer system. Hence, the tip of the probe also vibrates at a frequency of 20 kHz and transfers these vibrations with high power density to the sonicated sample. The amplitude of vibrations is held constant regardless of the loads on the probe by feeding back signals from the ultrasonic converter (AMPLICHRON® circuit), if the permissible maximum power is not exceeded. Thus, a reproducibility of process parameters is ensured for process validation. Standard or booster

Microwave Synthesis Labstation
CATALOG NAME:
MicroSYNTH
DESCRIPTION:
Milestone’s state-of-the-art MicroSYNTH is the most innovative microwave synthesis platform available on the market. MicroSYNTH Main Advantages: • Enhanced microwave field homogeneity • Advanced reaction control • High safety • Unmatched application flexibility The MicroSYNTH offers unmatched flexibility of operation; it allows operations in both open and closed vessels and chemical reactions can be optimized in small volumes and then taken to larger scale within the same microwave unit. The MicroSYNTH offers such excellent scalability because of its multimode design and its inherent safety. The microwave field is homogeneously diffused throughout the entire cavity by a specifically designed mode stirrer. As a result, chemists can achieve uniform results in a wide range of vessels and can process multiple reactions simultaneously or explore large reaction volumes. Precise reaction monitoring and control, with an intuitive, easy-to-use software interface, provide exacting reproducibility and complete documentation. MicroSYNTH’s door features an innovative opening and self-resealing mechanism. The door is mounted on spring-loaded steel bars and in case of a sudden over-pressurization of the cavity, it opens slightly for immediate and safe release of the overpressure. Microwave power is instantaneously cut-off. Immediately afterward, the door is pulled back by the springs resealing the cavity. A magnetic stirrer is built-in in the MicroSYNTH system. It is designed to ensure vigorous stirring of the solutions in all vessels, independently on their position in the cavity, thus assuring reliable and consistent results.

Differential Scanning Calorimeter DSC
CATALOG NAME:
DSC1
DESCRIPTION:
The DSC 1 differential scanning calorimeter from Mettler Toledo allows the determination with a very good precision of the quantity of heat ejected or absorbed within a physical chemical process. The DSC technique represents the most frequently used method for the study of the exothermic decompositions, in order to determine the overall reaction heat and in order to assess the kinetics of the chemical reaction by the subsequent treatment of the primary data. As most of the chemical reactions and several physical transitions are accompanied by the generation or consumption of heat, the calorimetric method is also a general method for the investigation of such processes. The DSC method is enforced for the description of the materials, the qualitative control, the identification of substances or mixtures of substances, stability investigation, assessment of the phase diagrams, purity determinations, kinetic investigations, research in order to prevent accidents. The device functions within the interval -100-550oC, having a temperature control precision of ±0,02 oC, at a heating speed from 0.02 to 300 oC/min and a cooling speed from 0.02 to 50 oC/min. The cooling from 100 oC to 0 oC is carried out in 5 min by means of the IntraCooler system. Moreover, the device allows the separation of the phase transitions that overlap by the technique called TOPEM “sawtooth”.
