Evaluation of chemical and energetic potential of biomass components
SERVICE DESCRIPTION:
The following characteristics of energy crop are envisaged: • high yield (maximum production of dry matter per hectare) • low energy input to produce • low cost, • composition with the least contaminants • low nutrient requirements. The main material properties of interest, during subsequent processing as an energy source, are related to: • moisture content (intrinsic and extrinsic) • calorific value • proportions of fixed carbon and volatiles • ash/residue content • alkali metal content • cellulose/lignin ratio. Systemic analysis of biomass energy potential consists in the evaluation and analysis of all factors involved in production, transport and processing of biomass, followed by its conversion to energy.

Airlift reactor
CATALOG NAME:
n/a
DESCRIPTION:
The rectangular pneumatic contactor, with a high flexibility, which can operate as a bubble column or airlift reactor (by introducing a vertical baffle) was designed, built and prepared for the investigation of operational hydrodynamics and mass transfer in air-water system. The rectangular pneumatic contactor, thus, developed and characterized is further used for the physical absorption CO2 in water study and for the decontamination of polluted environments containing persistent pollutants (inorganic and organic). The reactor was made from transparent Plexiglas, with rectangular cross-section of 0.12 x 0.1 m, 1.5 m height, nominal volume of 18 L. The ALR was assumed to consist of four main sections: riser, downcomer, bottom and top section. The riser and downcomer were separated by a movable vertical rectangular baffle with three different heights: 0.8, 0.6 and 0.4 m, which can be positioned at three different distances from the reactor bottom, that is: 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, 0.20 and 0.25 m. Therefore the bottom clearance hb (the distance from the reactor base to the lower end of the baffle) can be varied in the range 0.05-0.25 m, by adjusting the vertical position of the baffles of the column walls using stainless steel screws. The baffles were fitted to the column walls using silicone strips. The air and CO2 were introduced at the base of the riser by two types of gas distributors: a perforated pipe (tube) made of Teflon with 22 orifices, 1 mm diameter equally spaced, and a porous plate sparger (with 100 holes having the orifice diameter of 0.5 mm). The reactor was designed with 10 holes along the column height (5 holes in riser and 5 holes in downcomer zones), which can be served as sampling and/or manometers taps. Lab. CH 108

Gamma spectroscopy multichannel analyzer was developed by a Romanian Company from the IFA platform, Magurele, Ilfov using different components from Germany, USA, Hungary and Romania. The dosimeter was added to establish the level of radioactivity in the measuring area. The analyzer supports different type of detectors, which are kept during the measurements in the lead shielded box. The high voltage for detector is supplied from a special power supply, controlled from the PC. A dedicated data acquisition card is used for signal processing and counting the impulses. Finally, using a specific software the gamma spectra can be recorded. Based on the recorded gamma spectra, a semi-qualitative and quantitative analyses of the main radioisotopes could be carried out.
