Nanopowder synthesis using unconventional methods
SERVICE DESCRIPTION:
Sol-gel technology is a well-established colloidal chemistry technology, which offers possibility to produce various materials with novel, predefined properties in a simple process and at relatively low process cost. The main benefits of sol–gel processing are the high purity and uniform nanostructure achievable at low temperatures. The pyrolysis of an ultrasonically generated aerosol or the pyrosol is a techniques halfway between CVD techniques and spray pyrolysis. In the pyrosol process precursors of the material to be deposited are dissolved in an appropriate solvent, which is usually water, alcohol or ketone. The aerosol of the precursor solution, generated in an ultrasonic atomizer is conveyed by a carrier gas at atmospheric pressure through a nozzle toward a heated substrate where, through pyrolysis of the droplets, film or nanoparticle deposition occurs. The equipment for implementing of the pyrosol process is simple and relatively inexpensive, and is composed of 3 subparts: 1. High frequency generator (800 KHz – 1300 KHz); 2. Electric tubular oven, which develops 1000°C and having a length of 1000 mm. The inner diameter of the is of 60 mm; 3. Inside the electric oven there is a quartz tube with an outer diameter of 55 mm, thickness of the wall of 2.0 mm and a length of 2000 mm; Powder collection mechanism composed from: Semicilindrical device, stainless steel, 45 cm in length, diameter of 45 mm, in which there is situated (contactless) a 30 cm molybdenum wire which collects the powder; High tension generator (-) which powers the molybdenum wire; Or the collection of the powder is made in a two-step ultrapure water collection system.

Nanopowder synthesis using unconventional methods
SERVICE DESCRIPTION:
The Milestone synthWAVE equipment is used for microwave assisted hydrothermal synthesis of nano- and biomaterials. It is able to handle single or multiple reactions at temperatures up to 300 °C and pressures up to 199 bar, for reliable and reproducible scale-up of microwave enhanced chemical reactions. The usage of microwave radiation leads to a higher reaction speed, due to polarization of water from the aqueous suspension. As a consequence, the treatment duration is reduced to only a few minutes and the entire process takes place with energy consumption savings.

He Pycnometer
CATALOG NAME:
Pycnomatic ATC
DESCRIPTION:
Pycnomatic uses mainly helium as a test gas. This features a very small atomic size that can even permeate the extremely narrow pores in a solid sample, permitting the determination of the real volume occupied by the sample. The ratio of the dried sample weight and the volume measured by the Pycnomatic gives the real density of the material. The high thermal conductivity of helium and its ideal gas behavior at around room temperature, make this technique extremely reliable and fast. Whenever helium is not recommended (i.e. for activated carbons) other inert gases like nitrogen can be used.

Spark Plasma Sintering Equipment
CATALOG NAME:
FCT HP D 1.25
DESCRIPTION:
Spark Plasma Sintering method (SPS) was patented in the United States of America and afterwards used at large scale, especially in Japan. For this technique, the trimming occurs simultaneously with the ceramic body consolidation, by merging the actions of a pulsed DC and a uniaxial pressure applied during thermal treatment of precursor powders placed in a graphite mold. The success of SPS has been assigned to the plasma generated between powder particles, requiring the removal of impurities from the surface and obtaining an advanced densification using significantly lower temperatures and levels of sintering compared to those imposed by conventional sintering, by thermal activation. In addition to the plasma influence, the SPS method has other advantages such as a rapid heating rate and uniform heating of the sample conditions. Current contributes to enhance the mass transport by electromigration or through its influence on the generation and mobility of point defects. Rapid heating and the lower temperatures and levels of sintering inhibit the granulation growth by diffusional mechanism, which is why this method of consolidation is one of the few that can lead both to uniform nanostructured materials and pure composite materials without secondary phases resulted from possible side reactions at the interface between crystalline major constituents commonly found in conventional sintering case.
